NOMOLL I I

2 pianos

NOMOLL is a very energetic, fast, rhythmically complex, virtuoso and loud piece that should be performed with a lot of zest.

I worked with patterns and repetitions, alternating and changing them as the piece goes along. Hence the title: the word nomoll means again in swiss german.
The patterns are either static and reappear unchanged during a whole section or they develop gradually into something entirely different. Sometimes, by increasing speed, the repetitions fall apart and become something else altogether.

Originally planned as a piano piece for two prepared pianos (NOMOLL I, based on John Cage’s Three Dances) where I was hearing a large percussion ensemble, NOMOLL II is just as rhythmic but more layered because of added harmony.
